Seoul is an amazing city with plenty to do while on vacation
Six Things to do in Seoul, Korea
This great history along with the very modern infrastructure make this a unique place with a lot to see. When visiting Seoul, make sure to take in the following popular things to do.
Namsan Park and Seoul Tower
This national park once served as a strategic defensive location for the city against any invaders. It boasted five warning beacons, walls, and other protective measures from as far back as the Joseon Dynasty.
Today it is a national park that is visited by millions each year. In the area you can learn about the history, see an aquarium, hike the walking trails, and more. You can also go up into Seoul Tower for an unbeatable view of the city. This whole park is free to the public, so make sure to schedule a day to take it all in.
Changdeokgung Palace
Changdeokgung Palace is the most intact of the five Joseon Dynasty palaces in the region, and it is a beautiful place to see. It was first built in 1405, and still retains many of the historical elements. The wonderfully painted structures, secret garden, and lotus pool are some of the main attractions, but the big draw is the peaceful atmosphere.
Dongdaemun Market
The Dongdaemun Market is a massive 10 city block shopping destination where you will be able to find everything you can imagine. This huge area has 26 malls, 30,000 specialty shops, restaurants, wholesale outlets, and much more. Whether you have something specific that you need to buy, or you just want to see this astounding area, this market is definitely a must see stop in Seoul.
Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)
In 1953 an agreement between North Korea and South Korea was signed to halt aggressions between the two warring countries. The agreement created a 148-mile long and 2-mile wide area where neither country would enter. This gave them a buffer zone to help facilitate peace, and it has been largely successful for over 60 years despite the fact that the two countries are still officially at war. While the tensions are still high politically, you can visit the DMZ and even see the building where the armistice agreement was signed. Make sure to put one foot on each side of the official line so you can stand in both countries at once.
Lotte World
Lotte World is an amusement park that is great for children and adults alike. It is the largest indoor theme park in the world and offers all sorts of rides, including high octane roller coasters, kids rides, and more. They also have a museum, ice rink, bowling alley, and other attractions to keep you having fun throughout the day.
